Advent Celebration 2016

The Fleming Foundation

Invites You To An

Advent Celebration

fireplace

Dear Friend and Fellow-Reader:

We have made a change in our plans for the next installment in the Boethius Book Series. Instead of the usual book discussion, we shall be holding a small Advent party on Thursday December 15, 2016. There will be a brief political discussion, taking off from Ezra Pound’s title “Jefferson and/or Mussolini.” The President-elect speaks sometimes as the defender of American liberties and sometimes as the advocate of strong nationalist policies. Is it possible to harmonize these two approaches, as Pound thought it was in the case of the Italian dictator? The evening will commence promptly with drinks and hors d’oeuvres served at 5:30, at my house: 2719 Highcrest Road, Rockford. There is no charge for this event, which is simply an occasion for the members and supporters of our Foundation to celebrate.

Because this is a more elaborate party, we are asking for you to give us your RSVP as soon as possible—by December 13 at the latest.

The book evenings will be on vacation in January and February, while Gail and I are in South Carolina. We are still taking reservations, however, for a two to three day discussion of Sir Walter Scott’s Waverley in Charleston, beginning Friday February 10th; for more information on this go to Fleming.Foundation.

Please let us know if you are coming to our Advent Celebration by calling me at (815) 621-5700 (a voice mail message is adequate if we miss your call) or email me at Thomas@Fleming.Foundation.

We look forward to seeing you on December 15 at 5:30.

Faithfully yours,

Thomas J. Fleming
