I was saddened but not surprised by the New York City Council being granted their demand that Jefferson’s statue be removed from City Hall after having stood there since the 1830’s. I should be enraged, but just can’t keep it up day after day, outrage following upon outrage. I would be equally unsurprised to see the statue dragged behind a truck up Broadway and ritually dismembered in Central Park, while Jefferson himself is declared, posthumously, to be unmutual, for his “troubling past”. At least he will not have to be forcibly injected, although, when they are done with the toddlers, I, again, would not be surprised to see them digging up the dead and giving them the choice of cremation or vaccination.
