Just an FYI to anyone interested: I have stumbled across a new Latin grammar book called Ossa Latinitatis Sola, by Reginald Foster, who served at the Vatican. Although the title is translated as “The Mere Bones of Latin”, it runs over 800 pages. Although I have only previewed it on Google books, it appears to be quite good.
I have not seen the book and never met Foster, but I know people who studied under him. From what I know of his methods they are highly eccentric–as indeed Foster is, according to a clerical friend of mine who knows him–and they do not prepare the student to study except under Foster. If the impression I have received is true, I strongly disapprove.
