It’s Going To Get Worse Alan. Perhaps You Should Consider Switching Sides.

When leftist lawyer Alan Dershowitz briefly complained in The Hill that his beach buddies on Martha’s Vineyard shunned him for supporting the civil liberties of President Trump, the left got a good belly laugh. One infers that liberals thought Dershowitz got what he deserved when a woman threatened to stab him through the heart.

Of course, being shunned wasn’t the point of his column. Noting the public harassment of Trump Administration officials, he wrote this: “But this is not about me, nor is it about Sarah Huckabee Sanders, or Stephen Miller, or Betsy DeVos. This is about the United States of America. It is about our growing intolerance toward opposing views.”

Right he is. But that intolerance is nothing new. The left has been working up to what we see now for more than 50 years.

The unhinged and distasteful Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., who loudly advocated that public harassment, does not speak for true liberals, Dershowitz wrote. Actually, she speaks for a lot of liberals. The ejection of Sarah Sanders from a restaurant is just the most visible manifestation of the left’s ballistic reaction to the threat a Trumpified GOP and electorate poses to its half-century, iron grip on the major institutions of American society.

The attacks you don’t see or hear much about are more worrisome. Consider this list from Breitbart, which shows a pattern of either vicious verbal attacks on Trump supporters, threats of violence against them or even the president’s son, or incitement to riot or violence against the president himself.

David Simon, the creator of “The Wire,” suggested rioting with bricks, while another Hollywood freak you’ve never heard of warned of a Capone-like rampage with a Louisville Slugger. And let us not forget last week’s felonious assault on a kid in a burger joint. His offence? Wearing a MAGA hat. Judge for yourself whether Breitbart is exaggerating leftist intolerance.

The mistake would be thinking that liberal intolerance is something new. Again, it isn’t. It’s been building for some time.

The left has been smearing conservatives, for instance, with the Nazi label since leftist CBS man Daniel Schorr accused presidential candidate Barry Goldwater of being a full-blown Nazi. I myself have been so accused — well, you’re just a Nazi, a debate opponent once said — but at any rate, the hatred we see now is as old as the hills. Yet even the most hateful arias about Ronald Reagan and other conservatives never hit the operatic heights we see with Trump.

And as I reported  three years ago, even before Trump deprived the Clintons of a second stay at the White House, the left had lost its marbles.

The headlines that blare from Daily Kos, Salon, and Slate are loaded with Hofstadterian lingo. White dudes are “whiny.”  Conservatism has a “racist problem.”  “Right-wing policies are literally killing women.”  A “white guy killer syndrome” stalks the land, and America must “admit what it’s long resisted: White male privilege kills.” “White people are more racist than they realize,” conservatives are “casually racist,” and there’s this thing called “hideous white hypocrisy.” “White America must answer” for the awful church shooting in Charleston, South Carolina.

When the left doesn’t state flatly that someone is a racist, it uses other terms.  Moron, slimy, stupid, creepy, perverse, deadly, cretin, crazed, sexist, misogynist, and homophobe are just a few. The drumbeat pounds the message home 24/7 year-round.

That story documented the flatly racist, anti-white, routine lunacy of the left. But it was pre-Trump. Now, the steady stream of nonpareil vitriol and hatred is ending in totalitarian violence. A lawyer with impeccable leftist credentials cannot, on principle, defend a political opponent’s legal rights, or even one of his policies, without inviting a crazy woman’s threat to stab him in the heart.

Dershowitz might consider whose side he’s on. It’s going to get worse.

The revolution chugs along. Today’s progressives are tomorrow’s backwards bigots. Dershowitz’s crimes are A) being old, B) thinking that the rabble of today care anything about decency, debate, tolerance, etc. C) being insanely naive, D) shepherding and encouraging this type of left wing nonsense for decades and then being surprised when it steamrolls you….

Dershowitz would just be just another baying-at-the-moon anti-Trumpster except for the Trump Administration’s unconditional support for Israeli interests and expansionism.

Dan, you are of course right, but never underestimate the ability of a shyster to switch sides whenever he thinks the move might be advantageous

Describing Maxine Waters as ‘unhinged and distasteful’ is perfect.
