Why Geezers Rule

wondering why old men run America, and why, in particular, a geezer who cannot tell his wife from his sister is the likely Democratic candidate. The writer--a dopey geek with messy hair and an uncertain grasp of English, logic, and just about everything else worth learning--is puzzled, but anyone over 50 will hit upon an answer that would not please the "writer." And--here it is, let the trumpets bray--because Joe Biden, a lying corrupt politician who could not even tell his own lies about his life but had to plagiarize a British socialist, is several steps ahead of the youth today. The best part is that the kid (one Derek Thompson) hasn't the faintest clue. But not to worry, Derek, some day illiterate kids 55 years old and older will be running the country without fear of being outclassed by a crook with Alzhiemers.

Mr. Thompson reveals his pathetic ignorance by claiming climate change is our most important problem. He should investigate why he believes this and why it is not true and he will likely discover other more serious (real) problems.

I hear but have no way of knowing that the older democratic voters support Biden while the younger voters are behind Sanders. 18 to 39 yrs of age “college educated” supposedly are Bernie’s biggest backers. It surprises me that it doesn’t extend to my age group because Marxist, both of the ideological and pragmatic types, were pretty much in control when I was an under graduate some fifty or sixty years ago.

I encounter a shockingly large number of older, white Catholics who still pull straight Democrat because daddy loved FDR and Kennedy and Democrats are for the working man. It is still an immense population of people in the rust belt. If they could be awoken from their slumber, Trump would probably win PA, OH, IN, MI, etc. by double-digits. Even many of their children, in their 30’s and 40’s, have adopted the same idea.

  4. Dominick D says:

It surprises me that a college educated 39-year-old, who has had to pay off or mostly pay off his college debt from his own pocket, would want to start paying for the 18-year-old’s college, too.

    James D,
Jimmy Carter and his spouse recently enjoyed breakfast with the former Mayor of South Bend,Indiana and his spouse or (his husband) in the heart of the Deep South.” A photo op for all Democrats of good will”Your references to sons and fathers of old catholic Democrats in the Midwest is similar. Those references just don’t have much meaning for me any more although I would prefer Trump “packing” the Court to Bernie or Biden I guess

  6. Vince Cornell says:

In another cycle will it be AOC and Michelle Obama leading the way? I think I prefer the geezers . . .

  7. Frank Brownlow says:

Here in Massachusetts the Catholic Irish are pretty solidly Democrat, and they’re Democratic and Irish before they’re Catholic, so their parishes are shrinking geriatric clubs. The huge, empty Irish church in this town has a shrine to John Kennedy outside it, and that’s really all they care about. But then who’s a Catholic these days? According to the Pew Foundation most of the people still calling themselves Catholic have no beliefs to speak of at all.

    Professor Brownlow,
Yes sir and thank you for saying in real English what I was trying to say in feeble okie speak! I always appreciate your posts.
