Conservative Gun-Grabbers

For some odd reason theoretical debate among conservatives has devolved into the discussions between David French and Sohrab Ahmari. Yet both are gun controllers – therefore not real conservatives. As I often say: Second Amendment, First Freedom. If you can’t own a gun to defend yourself and your family, you’re not free. What good is the rest of the Bill of Rights if you don’t have the arms, personally, to defend those rights? Ahmari, to use older terms, is supposed to be the more “social conservative” of the two. Yet social conservatism (contrasted with “strong defense” conservatism and “economic freedom”...

Nice Guys Finish Last

What do we do? My friends and I have been talking about it for a long time, especially out here in California, which is way farther down the road to ruin than the rest of America.  Although usually voting Republican since my first election in 1974, I long avoided joining the Party, except for brief periods to vote in the primaries for Pat Buchanan or Ron Paul. I prized being an “independent,” especially as I was a journalist. But in early 2015 I permanently jointed the Republican Party, to my friends quoting Rhett Butler, “Why? Maybe it’s because I’ve always...

The Courts and the Election

It wasn’t supposed to be this way. Alexander Hamilton called the Supreme Court “the least dangerous branch” in Federalist 78. They key was Marbury v. Madison, which Alexander Bickel and others showed was based on dubious jurisprudence. But that case gave the court almost unlimited power to change the Constitution. A lawyer friend of mine told me his constitutional law professor taught the budding young Clarence Darrows, “The Constitution is what the Supreme Court says it is.” And in almost every case, the court follows what the Establishment Elite tell it to do. Joe Sobran used to point out how...

Tulsi, Wang, Comey and the Rancid Ruling Elite

I call it the Rancid Ruling Elite because its main goal now is to destroy what’s left of Christian Civilization. Other names for it are the Deep State, the Establishment, Ike’s Military-Industrial Complex or, from the 60s, The System. Let’s look at some of the RRE’s recent actions. By far the best Democratic candidate for president is Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii. Yet the RRE froze her out of the next debate, meaning her unique voice on foreign policy won’t get heard. Shouldn’t voters hear what she thinks about the possible deal Trump is working out with the Taliban to finally, after...

Top Unconscious Election Issue Dates to 1949

Although I can’t prove it, I think an unconscious element in every presidential election is the fear a candidate might get us into a nuclear war. In my long career of voting for president, beginning with Ford/Carter in 1976, I certainly had a “gut loathing” of only two candidates I thought would be unstable and liable to lunge for the Nuclear Football and press the Button: John McCain, a Republican, in 2008, and Hillary Clinton, a Democrat, in 2016. I think a lot of voters shared that fear. There’s even a 1999 book, “The Gift of Fear and Other Survival...

The Tech Left, Censorship and the 2020 Election

Although he’s back on Twitter as of this writing, recently the tech giant locked gun scholar John Lott out of his account. He’s been the main source for my writing on guns and politics for two decades. And when it came out I reviewed his main book, “More Guns, Less Crime” – great title – as well as one of his other books. Lott’s “crime”? He actually read the New Zealand mass killer’s “manifesto” and quoted its socialist and environmentalist sections. That violated New Zealand’s policy of banning all discussion of the killings. But since when do New Zealand’s policies...

They Want Our Guns

I don’t own a TV. But during the last week I occasionally have been watching the TV news, which has been dominated by the killings in El Paso and Dayton. FoxNews has been defensive; even Tucker Carlson, by far the best host. CNN, which is nothing but lies. As Tucker said, CNN and other networks – as well as the NY Times, WaPo, etc. – replaced the Russia Hoax with the Racism Hoax. Although I haven’t watched it continuously, which would have landed me in nearby Hoag Hospital’s psych unit, from what I could tell CNN never mentioned the Dayton...

The National Conservatism Hullabaloo

I’ve seen a lot of different iterations of “conservatism” in my life, so I think I’ll pass on the new National Conservatism movement, which just held a conference in Washington, D.C. The least they could have done was hold the shindig out there in the “nation,” somewhere down in Flyover Country. How do you find out if it “plays in Peoria” if you’re not in Peoria? I’m also allergic to using “nationalism” instead of “patriotism.” Dr. Fleming criticized “nationalism” here. He makes the salient point that “nationalism” erases localism. It’s ironic the National Conservative movement is run by something called...

Mueller and the Rancid Ruling Elite

For something like a decade I’ve referred to America’s Rancid Ruling Elite – RRE. Ruling elites are supposed to protect their people, giving them at least reasonable leadership, as well as cultural splendor. In return, they get to run things and enjoy a lot of money and prestige. Ours do the opposite: They parasite off the rest of us while attacking us. Ultimately, it’s self-defeating, as they will end up like the French and Russian elites of 1789 and 1917, headed for the guillotine or the gulag. No decent elite would have allowed the Mueller farce to begin, let alone...

What the Democratic Candidates Reveal to Us So Far

We’re far enough along in the election process to sum up what the Democratic Party candidates stand for: Foreign Policy. Except for Tulsi Gabbard, Andrew Yang (sort of) and Bernie Sanders, all the candidates want a return to the globalist, interventionist policies that reigned before Trump. Especially indicative was their rejection – again excepting those three – of Trump meeting with Korean Boss Kim Jong at the DMZ. Typical was Elizabeth Warren’s war whoop, “Our President shouldn’t be squandering American influence on photo ops and exchanging love letters with a ruthless dictator. Instead, we should be dealing with North...
